And lord knows it was needed, as when we arrived last week (we had a very quick two hours on Saturday then), it looked something like this:
Five hours of pretty intense physical labour later, and we have managed to cut the most monstrous weeds down to size again. My hands were cramping by the end, from all the weeding I was doing. And The Other Half has blisters on his hands from all the lawn-mowing-and-edge-cutting he did. Daughter supervised, so not too much physical hardship for her... But, here is where we stand at the moment:
The house is visible once more! There are some flowers (believe me, this whole summer was tragically colour-free, the few times we did manage to get to the garden)! And crab apples! And, when the sun was out, about a gazillion bees and solitary wasps and butterflies and The Biggest Slug In The World.
Glorious day, full of labour (although we did sneak in a lie-down on the freshly-mown grass for a good long while there) and result. And now I'm going to sit on the couch with an ice-cold Coke and a bag of Doritos. :-)
